I see a small porcelain pot. It fits into my two hands and it has a loosely fitting lid. It’s also full of holes and cracks, like it’s been eaten through by mice. It’s old, a legacy passed down through the generations like, “Here, take this and keep it safe. It’s been in the family a long time…”
Wow. Is it surprising that my container of abundance looks like it’s survived a war? Because it has!
And just like all that legacy furniture, I’ve kept this container safe and untouched for so long. Cherishing it simply because it was passed down to me. But keeping it safe and just tucking it away and never using it, isn’t the same at all. When you leave stuff in storage and essentially forget about it, refuse to look at it because confronting it might be painful, it gets eaten by vermin and worn in its neglect.
So, just like I’ve had all that old furniture repaired and repainted, I can do the same to my little pot.
I want it to grow into a great, big container that can easily accommodate many more people and animals. I want it to grow into a lake where everyone has room to swim and move, live and heal. Like a magic lamp granting you a wish I want it to first fill with water and then have the water overflow and keep flowing until it makes a puddle that just grows and grows. I want it to swell and fill out the landscape, like milk filling a bowl of cereal and lifting all the cereal up at once, I want it to fill an entire basin.
I want it to grow and call life to it. Small life – insects, frogs, fish, algae – and they’ll create an environment for the birds to move in, the deer, the foxes, alpacas and horses. Kids and families will love it and enjoy it, benefit from the wonderful lake, from its abundance.
