The 19-year-old Dutch Draft Lady Kiona from Jeroen Vos was just so gorgeous standing in the field I had to draw her! This was the reference photo I used from their Instagram page:
Even though I love drawing horse tack (with all the fiddly little loops, buckles and details), this time I was more interested in capturing her relaxed pose and the tack isn’t 100% true to life.
Since she does a lot of ploughing work, I decided to add some stylised vines to frame her beautiful self.
I’ve also been having some issues with Procreate, the software I use to draw with, and resizing or moving objects is causing severe degradation in quality. Since this has only been an issue since I updated from version 3 to version 4, I and scores of other users are waiting for this issue to be resolved in the next update that will be out before the end of the year.
Before that, it’s simply just too much work to go back and redraw simple and nonessential elements every time, so even the line drawing in this (on the bottom vine border) has suffered a little bit. But we won’t let that stop us; a good colourist works around the deficiencies in the image, right? 😉
