I make no secret of the fact that I love journaling. Journaling has some seriously powerful benefits.
Especially, when you want to change something in your life.
Getting clear and specific on what you really want, makes it so much easier to achieve the things you want in life (because you’ll know exactly what you want and what steps you need to get there).
When you’re working on creating more abundance in your life, a technique called scripting is an effective tool to help you create that mindset shift.
Scripting allows you to put yourself into the vision you have for yourself.
Think of it like reading a book – when you not only are there with the character but you are them, you see what they see and feel what they feel – only in this case you’re the one writing the book for yourself to read.
And writing yourself is so much more impactful than reading what someone else wrote.
So, use scripting liberally when you’re rewriting your money story.
Here are five of my favourite prompts to kickstart writing yourself a more abundant life.
1. How have I been blocking my ability to receive and keep money?
Whenever you find yourself in a situation where you’re struggling to get something in your life that you want, there’s typically some kind of block standing in your way.
In order to open yourself up to the thing you want, you need to first work through the block.
This prompt is good for examining the thing that you want and whatever is standing in your way of having it.
If you’re not sure where to start, begin by writing a list of reasons that are preventing you from having that in your life.
Once you’ve identified what’s standing between you and prosperity, pick the biggest reason of the lot.
Look at the statement and think about how you can turn it around into an affirmation.
“I’m not worthy of making more money” could become “I deserve to make more money because I work hard and do a good job”.
“I can’t have more money because I’m not good with money” could become “I’ve learned a lot about handling money and I’m now ready to start doing it 100%”.
When you craft an optimistic statement that really resonates with you, write it down several times. Say it out loud. And keep repeating it until you start feeling like that statement is true.
2. Describe your ideal day in detail
Finish this sentence: When I become financially prosperous, my ideal day is…
Describe in vivid detail what your ideal day would look like. Really put yourself into the shoes of this more abundant you and feel what it feels like to be her.
When you embody the feeling of already having that which you really want, you’re telling the Universe that you’re ready to receive it.
In order for your journaling work to be powerful and life-changing, you need to really feel what it would be like to have your bank account overflowing with money.
What it would feel like to have that much abundance.
And don’t be shy: dream as big as you can. Really imagine what a typical day would look like for an abundant you and think about the details.
What does your morning look like? What kind of habits do yo have? How do you dress? What kind of work do you do?
Once you’ve filled your journal pages with your ideal life, you can start to see which aspects you can already begin to embody in order to become more aligned with a more abundant you.
3. The universe just dropped 5k into your bank account. How do you spend it?
Spending money should feel good.
Because what you’re creating is a constant, steady flow of money into your life.
One of the best ways to start creating space for money in your life is to start spending it on things!
Thinking about what you want to spend your money on gives your money purpose.
And think about it, you always find money when you really need it, right?
So, get clear on what the money is for. What will you spend it on and how much is that thing going to cost?
And don’t spend it on necessary things in this exercise.
This time let the bills and debts be. Forget about them.
Beyond the necessary things in life, what do you WANT to spend the money on?
Spend this 5k on fun, exciting things that make you feel good. Vacation, new shoes, cute handbag, fancy dress, get a horse, buy a new car, totally renovate your bedroom, hire a chef to cook for you for a day… whatever you want!
4. Write a whole page (or more) full of money-loving affirmations
There’s nothing more powerful than the decision to start doing something differently.
But it takes a while for your brain to catch up because it likes to make things efficient. And because it likes efficiency, it likes to hold on to the shortcuts and biases it has set up on your already existing beliefs.
In order to program in new settings for your brain, you have to first figure out the new coordinates before you can turn the ship around.
Affirmations are a powerful tool when you want to recalibrate your direction.
By amplifying to appreciation for money and the things it brings into your life, you’re making space for more.
Choose affirmations that you believe are true or wish were true. Working with affirmations that don’t resonate you or make you feel wrong is pointless.
That’s why I think it’s important that you curate the words you allow into your life.
You can write the same affirmation over and over again, or you can write different ones.
And when you’re writing them, don’t do it on autopilot.
Genuinely feel that they’re true as you’re writing them (if you don’t believe it yet, just pretend you do for the few seconds it takes to write that statement).
Take your time. I usually write the numbers out in words as well. So, five thousand euros rather than €5,000.
And visualise your abundant life as you write them. See and feel how money flows easily into your life.
Visualise how you have a lot of money in your bank account. See yourself buying the things you want.
And most importantly, feel how it feels to have all those things you’re going to buy with your money – whether that’s new clothes, a new house or going to school for that degree!
5. Always find your gratitude, it never fails! Write down 10 things you’re grateful for
Why is gratitude so important when inviting more abundance into your life?
Because the universe isn’t gonna send you more if you aren’t grateful for what you’ve already got.
So, make time for gratitude. Make time for it often.
Write down 10 things you’re grateful for right now. Big and small.
To take it one step further, write down why you’re grateful for that thing as well. “I’m grateful for… because…”
Remembering your gratitude will help you notice the little things you take for granted in your life. It’ll help you shift your thinking and support you when you want to keep an optimistic mindset throughout the day.
Redefine how you value yourself.
